As specialists in public sector and transport industry membership marketing, GWCM partnered with ITSO. ITSO is the guardian of the UK’s interoperable smart ticketing standard. We supported a brand evolution that better reflects the organisation’s pivotal role. The work reinforces the value of its member-led structure.
ITSO sits at the heart of the UK’s smart mobility infrastructure. As a not-for-profit, membership-based organisation backed by the Department for Transport. ITSO plays a critical role in enabling seamless passenger travel. It supports journeys across bus, rail, and tram networks. This is done through secure, interoperable smart ticketing systems. Its technology supports millions of daily journeys. However, ITSO faced a common challenge. Like many member-led organisations, it struggled with visibility and perception.
The brief had two clear goals. First, refine the brand to reflect ITSO’s modern and innovation-driven mission. Second, deliver a membership marketing strategy. This included ongoing content and social media support. The aim was to engage stakeholders, strengthen relationships, and reposition the organisation. ITSO needed to move from a bureaucratic standard-bearer to a smart mobility champion.
Our work began with a brand refresh, developing new visual assets, evolving the tone of voice, and updating brand guidelines. The goal was to energise ITSO’s identity while retaining clarity and purpose. The refreshed brand needed to connect with current audiences. These include transport authorities, operators, and solution providers. It also needed to appeal to prospective members.
We supported this with a broader membership marketing strategy. The aim was to position ITSO as a thought leader in smart mobility. Through regular content creation and social media campaigns, we’ve helped ITSO highlight key insights, celebrate member success stories, and champion the ongoing relevance of the ITSO Specification in a transport landscape shaped by open standards, environmental challenges, and heightened user expectations.
Our collaboration continues as we support ITSO’s ambition to expand its influence and grow its membership base. We align its brand presence with its essential role. ITSO works behind the scenes to make UK transport smarter, safer, and more connected. This is achieved through targeted membership marketing.
